PhD student Provincial Roman Archaeology

Arjan started a PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in September 2021. His project is entitled:  ‘Provincials, “barbarians” and the Roman state. Impact of the limes – a study of cultural interaction between the province Germania Inferior and the adjacent unoccupied territories across the Rhine (Germania Magna)’. As a MA student Arjan stayed at the KNIR during fieldwork in Ostia Antica (2016). After obtaining his master’s degree in Archaeology from Leiden University, he worked in commercial archaeology in The Netherlands and Belgium.  Please do not hesitate to write him an email if you have any questions about the institute’s courses or facilities.
