Titel onderzoek: Between two worlds. Institutional epigraphy as an anchor of legitimisation by provincial and local elites in Hispania and Africa.
The project explores the development of institutional epigraphic habits by provincial communities in North Africa andthe Iberian peninsula as a consequence of the spread and reception of administrative language connected to theconcept of civitas. Institutional epigraphy, is the argument, was developed by elites as an anchoring device tolegitimize themselves as members and representatives of both local communities and imperial aristocracy.
