Urban innovation is crucial to understanding the changes of the Roman republic between the mid-second and mid-first centuries BCE. This period has seen some investigation into urban monumentality, but a holistic perspective of change and innovation is missing. Turning away from a perspective dominated by Rome, this thesis aims to diversify our understanding of Roman urbanity through the archaeological remains and epigraphy of Latium and Campania.
