This academic workshop will focus on the history, art and archaeology of the city and citizens of Rome in the 10th and 11th century AD. Through lectures, a round table and a site visit, we will discuss the people in power, like Theophanu and the Ottos, and their relationship with Rome, look to recent excavations and research in Ottonian churches and secular buildings, as well as explore relations between Rome, Ravenna and the North in these centuries.
The workshop is part of a research and exhibition project on the Millennium of 1000, organized by the National Museum of Antiquities (RMO) in Leiden (The Netherlands) and the Royal Netherlands Institute (KNIR) in Rome.
Participants are welcome! Limited places available and a green pass is required. Please register by email to secretary@knir.it
