How to apply?
The next deadline for applications is 15 November 2024. For the spring semester of 2025 we have two scholarship periods available: from 27 January to 17 March 2025 or from 14 April to 2 June 2025. You can apply via the form below. You will be asked to provide the following information / upload the following documents (except for the title and short description, you may use either English or Dutch):
- a title and short description of your research (English; max. 450 characters)
- a letter of motivation (max 1 A4)
- an updated overview of your study results
- a recent CV (max 2 A4)
- a research proposal form (to be downloaded here) with your (provisional) thesis proposal, in which you specify the reason(s) why you want to conduct research in Rome (max 1.000 words)
- a photo, which we will use only on our website(s) and social communication channels if you have been granted this scholarship
For this scholarship it is not necessary to have a full outline of your thesis subject yet. Rather indicate the type of (re)sources that you would like to access in for instance libraries, archives, or museums, and how your approach would benefit from a stay at KNIR. Before applying, we strongly recommend you to discuss your application and research plans with your (prospective) thesis supervisor.
When selecting applicants, we look at your motivation, the benefit of a stay at the KNIR for your (type of) research, the quality of your (provisional) thesis proposal, your CV, and your contribution to the KNIR academic community.
The results of the selection process will follow no later than one month after the deadline. Please note that the decision of the selection committee is final and no correspondence will be entered into. If your scholarship is granted, you are asked to confirm acceptance of the grant and the conditions that come with it within one week.
