KNIR Column Una vita con i “cocci”
I have been a KNIR Fellow since 2016. I am concluding my PhD research at the University of Groningen (GIA). My research discusses the natural road network that connected Alban Hills to Rome, the development of settlements along the so-called via Castrimeniense, the sacred signs linked to the main routes. Using a multidisciplinary approach, I started from the geomorphological analysis of the area to better understand the vocation of the territory and the conditioning that natural features have had in the development of the settlements. This project will result in a monography entitled Viabilità naturale e pianificazione territoriale tra i Colli Albani e Roma. Il caso della cosiddetta via Castrimeniense, in which there will also be a focus on the ancient topography of the Ciampino area and on the material culture (in particular mid-Republican ceramics) collected during recent archaeological excavations.
I was born in the 1969 and I am a PhD candidate of the GIA. I have a Master’s degree in technical geo-archaeology for land management and the protection of cultural heritage from the Università degli Studi di Roma Tre (2002-2003) and a degree in Archaeology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (1997), with a specialization in the Topography of Ancient Rome. Moreover, I am specialized in restoration of archaeological manufacts and I am in the Ministry’s lists of restorers, as expert in ceramics restoration. In 2009 I was the Scientific Director of the Antiquarium of Borgo Sabotino (LT) and of the Archeological Museum of Satricum, in Località Borgo Le Ferriere (LT). From 2009 to 2013 I was the Scientific Director of the Museo Civico Archeologico ANTIQUARIUM of Nettuno. I am a potter and I teach courses on restoration and clay working for civic museums. My research activity in the fields of archaeology and restoration has led to some articles in scientific journals and on the page https://rug.academia.edu/AgneseLiviaFischetti
At KNIR I have taught a course entitled Material Culture of the Republican Period and I have organized an expert workshop on the archaeology landscape and material culture of the suburbium of Rome. Moreover, I am involved in processing pottery at the KNIR Laboratory, where my skills in archaeology, restoration and pottery making have merged.
