Accommodation

The KNIR offers short and longer-term accommodation to a wide range of guests, from KNIR Scholarshipholders, to course students, from visiting scholars to artists in residence. For this purpose we have several guest facilities in the building, as well as an in-house library, a material culture lab, an aula and auditorium, where (public) lectures are held.

Guest rooms on the second floor
The accommodation for guests on the second floor consists of 10 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with a large terrace and a laundry room with a washing machine and a dryer. The rooms on the second floor are intended for use by one person; only with a simultaneous application for the same research project they can be shared by two persons. Two rooms have a private en suite bathroom, the other 8 rooms have shared bathroom facilities (4 toilets and 4 showers) in the hallway.

Guest rooms in the foresteria
The accommodation for guests in the foresteria, located in the basement of the building, consists of double, triple and quadruple rooms with shared bathroom facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, a large living room, and a laundry room with a washing machine. Furthermore, there is a terrace outside the building that the guests of the foresteria can use. The rooms are mainly intended for group use, with a maximum capacity of 17 persons.

Private apartments
The institute has two private apartments. On the first floor is the so-called Couperus apartment. This consists of a living room, separate bedroom with a double bed, private kitchen and bathroom with shower, toilet, and washing machine. It is commonly used for longer individual residencies, such as the KNIR/NWIB visiting professorship, or the artist in residence. In the foresteria is another separate apartment with two bedrooms, a private kitchen and bathroom. This apartment is often reserved for (guest) professors of the courses. It can house up to four people.

All our guests have free WiFi during their stay and can use our library 24/7. Towels and bed linen are provided.

Staying at the KNIR is possible via our KNIR Scholarships programme, by following one of our courses, or by making a request for paid accommodation.

Other available options to stay at the KNIR are:
The KNIR-Society of Arts Artist-in-Residence Programme
The NWIB Visiting Professor Programme

Paid Accomodation for individual researchers or external courses

In addition to subsidized stays at KNIR via our scholarship programme, KNIR courses, or other programmes, our institute also offers opportunities for paid accommodation for research or education purposes, for a minimum of 3 nights and a maximum of one month. Apart from the foresteria, our guest rooms are intended for use by one person; only with a simultaneous application for the same research purposes they can be shared by two persons.

Applications for paid accommodation can be submitted throughout the year using the forms below, but please note that availability will only be decided upon after the scholarships and courses for the requested period have been settled (i.e. around 15 December for the spring semester and around 15 June for the fall semester).
