Title research: Experiencing Pompeian Second-Style Paintings in a Globalising World.
I research the emergence and sensorial impact of Pompeian Second-Style murals (first century BCE). These paintingsbegan to include a wide array of objects/scenes that circulated in the Hellenistic world and were imported into Rome. The Roman republic had become a pivotal player in this oikouménē, and I aim to explore how these murals are part ofa process of globalisation and helped the viewer to come to grips with this new social reality.
