Share this pageIn September 2021, Menno Balm, a Dutch draughtsman and painter, stayed as artist-in-residence at the NIKI (Dutch Interuniversity Institute for Art History) in Florence. There he went looking for new subjects and worked these out in elaborate drawings. He also made a series of works to support articles in the special issue of Roma Aeterna on the relationship between Rome and Florence.
Italy plays an important role in Menno’s work and is a great source of inspiration. The country offers, also because of the unique way in which the surroundings, the stones and the streets are used and weathered, as nowhere else the possibility to catch the light in drawings and paintings.
