My project sets out to elucidate how vernacular rhetoricians’ drama related to humanism in the sixteenth-century Low Countries. I will focus on the ideas expressed in the plays of Louris Jansz. To better identify and define these ideas, I apply digital methods. I also examine how he uses drama to disseminate these ideas and how his plays functioned in the public sphere. The interaction between word and image will be central to my analysis.
